Update On Congregational Assessment

I wanted to give you an update of where we are with the Congregational assessment.  As you recall, it’s been nine years since we did our last assessment, so it is time for us to discern where God is leading us in the future.  The assessment methodology we are using is standard among churches and non-profit corporations alike.  We began by collecting input and data from as many sources as possible.  We used two methods to obtain data from the congregation: focus groups and the web based PULSE survey from the Evangelical Covenant Church.  We are pleased that 150 people completed the Pulse survey.  Five focus group sessions were held and 50 people took the opportunity to share their insights.  We also collected internal data about Harbor Covenant and external data about the greater Gig Harbor area.

On Saturday, May 6, thirteen members of the staff and leadership team met to review data and conduct a SWOT (Strengths Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis.

The data collection process is nearly complete and now the analysis begins. All of this data will be analyzed and the assessment team will meet on June 10 to begin to collate the information and prepare to present the findings to the leadership team.  Based on the input from the congregation, the leadership team will then prayerfully discern priorities and develop action steps for the next two to three years.

We expect to have discussions in the fall to update the congregation and solicit feedback.

Thank you for your willingness to participate in this process. I’m confident that it will turn out to be an extraordinarily valuable exercise for Harbor Covenant as we set our plans to further mission and positively impact God’s kingdom.  ~Pastor Michael
